Substance Use Recovery Support in Aurora, CO
Recovering from substance use is one of the hardest things a person can do — and one of the most important. At The Don't Look Back Center (DLBC) in Aurora, Colorado, we've built a community and a set of programs specifically designed to support individuals and families through every stage of that journey.
We're a nonprofit. We accept Medicaid. And we're peer-led — meaning the people walking alongside you in recovery have often walked the same path themselves.
Substance Use Recovery Is More Than Detox
Many people think of substance use treatment as a short-term process: detox, maybe a residential stay, and then back to life. But lasting recovery requires ongoing support, community connection, and the development of new skills and coping strategies.
That's the gap DLBC fills in Aurora and the Denver metro area. We provide the long-term, community-based support that helps people not just get sober — but stay that way and build lives they're proud of.
Our Substance Use Recovery Programs
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Our IOP provides structured, evidence-based treatment for individuals who need more support than standard outpatient care but don't require residential treatment. Participants attend multiple sessions per week and receive individualized care plans.
Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)
MRT is a nationally recognized cognitive behavioral program that helps individuals in recovery develop the moral reasoning and decision-making skills needed for long-term sobriety. We offer MRT groups multiple times per week.
DUI Education and Therapy
DLBC offers state-approved DUI Education and DUI Therapy programs in Aurora. These programs meet Colorado court requirements and are available both in-person and virtually, making them accessible for clients across the Denver metro area.
Seeking Safety
Seeking Safety is an evidence-based group therapy program designed for individuals dealing with both trauma and substance use. It provides practical coping skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Peer-Led Recovery Groups
We offer separate peer-led recovery groups for men and women throughout the week. These groups are facilitated by individuals with lived experience in recovery, creating an environment of genuine understanding and accountability.
Beyond Anger and Violence
This group helps participants understand and manage anger in healthy ways — a critical skill for individuals in recovery who may have experienced or perpetrated violence.
Parents on a Mission
Recovery looks different for parents. This group provides peer support specifically for parents navigating sobriety while raising children, addressing the unique challenges and motivations that come with that role.
Specialized Programs for Underserved Populations
T.O.P. — Transgender Outreach Program
Our T.O.P. Coordinator provides affirming, trauma-informed substance use recovery support for transgender individuals — a population that faces significant barriers to care in many traditional treatment settings.
RAHAB Mommy & Me
This program supports mothers in recovery by providing peer-led programming and affordable transitional housing for mothers and their children after sober living. It's one of the few programs of its kind in the Aurora and Denver area.
Re-Entry and Forensic Peer Support
Individuals leaving incarceration face unique challenges in recovery. Our Re-Entry and Forensic Peer Specialist provides peer-based guidance, advocacy, and connection to recovery services for people transitioning from the criminal justice system.
Wraparound Support for Lasting Recovery
Substance use recovery doesn't happen in a clinical vacuum. It requires stable housing, employment, financial literacy, and community connection. That's why DLBC offers:
- Workforce Development and Life Skills — helping clients build the practical skills needed for employment and independent living
- Budgeting and Life Skills groups — financial education and practical life skills for individuals in recovery
- Case management and care coordination — connecting clients with the full range of services they need
- Volunteer and community engagement opportunities — giving clients a sense of purpose and belonging in the broader community
